Space View Park is located less than 15 miles directly across the Indian River from the launch pads of the Canaveral Spaceport. The Park is the first and only walk in the nation that honors America's astronauts as well as the men and women behind the scenes who helped America lead the world in space exploration.
We bring you from the Central Florida region to this city park which is the preferred viewing locations of many locals, as you don't have to fight with the lines to enter into the space center facility, and you can have a direct line of sight to the rocket on the launch pad.
There are not many facilities in the area of the park, so we recommend you bring with you a collapsible chair, your entertainment devices (iPad / kindle / phone / book etc) and dress appropriately for the weather. Upon arrival at the park you can stake out your position and relax until the time is upon us for the launch. We would note that we plan to arrive at the park earlier then the launch window in order to attempt to beat the traffic and late comers who will also be vying for position.
The launch window opens at 1.30pm and stays open until 4.30pm EST.
A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket will launch on its first demonstration flight. The heavy-lift rocket is formed of three Falcon 9 rocket cores strapped together with 27 Merlin 1D engines firing at liftoff. The first Falcon Heavy rocket will attempt to place a Tesla Roadster on an Earth escape trajectory into a heliocentric orbit.
For people wanting to see the rocket lift off this is a great viewing area but we do note that you should be prepared for limited facilities at the area.
Space View Park is a open air public park in the City of Titusville. It has park bathrooms and monuments celebrating space travel. It does not have a large amount of seating but a few benches that are on a first come, first serve basis. There are no indoor areas there, so dress appropriately for the weather, and bringing collapsible chairs is recommended. There is a Burger King, Papa Johns Pizzeria as well as a CVS Store within walking distance of Space View Park.
Since Hurricane Irma affected the park, on the waterfront there is now a chain-link fence preventing people from entering the wooden docks area due to the damage caused and possible safety hazard. With that noted, for people bringing long-range cameras please be aware that this fence is placed there and may affect photos of the rocket on the launch pad. Gray Line Orlando does not guarantee that the rocket will launch, you are purchasing transportation only to a area that has good viewing, if it does lift off. There are no refund is the rocket does not lift off.
